Title:  Director of Youth Ministry
Review of Work:  Senior Pastor and Executive Director
Position Summary: Responsible for developing and implementing the Christian discipleship programs for members and guests of First Church from grades 7-12 and college studies.  Maintain safe sanctuary guidelines while coordinating with the Director of Children’s Ministry.  Such programs include Fusion, and service ministry programs. 

Essential Functions:
To develop, and implement the student programs, grades 7-12 and college at First Church. 



  1. Select, develop, and implement appropriate curriculum for junior and senior high school grades.

  2. Ensure the collection and analysis of evaluative information that measures the success of the Christian discipleship efforts, and modify programming as warranted by the evaluation results.

  3. Intentionally engage and disciple adults to work and serve with the students.

  4. Ability to present programs both in-person and via internet platforms including Facebook and Zoom.


To establish a curriculum for Fusion that is integrated with the First Church mission and pastoral sermon messages.

To establish, maintain and advance congregational relations.



  1. Assure that the Youth programs are consistently presented in a strong, positive image.

  2. Develop and maintain ministry opportunities for congregation members to engage in within the educational spectrum.

  3. Stay connected with parents.

  4. To be an active member of First Church staff and church leadership.


Understand the needs of a variety of students to touch those in various places on their faith walk.

Choose and implement mission-based programs for the youth in our community.



  1. Work closely with community organizations to implement service-based projects.

  2. Choose, develop, and implement an annual week-long missions-based program, either within the community or national/international location.


To ensure the effective management of the students programming according to established policies and procedures.



    1. Develop and maintain an appropriate volunteer structure that ensures program objectives are supported with trained individuals.

    2. Ensure a positive, healthy, and safe work environment.

    3. Oversee the general maintenance and up-keep of the student areas.



Connect with inactive youth through making visits, phone calls etc. to grow the program.


  1. Participate in staff meetings as well as Ministry Conferences.

  2. Participate in development of missional directions, programs, and social witness opportunities.

  3. Maintains and shows a strong spiritual walk with Jesus.

  4. Other duties as assigned to advance the mission of First Church.


Working Conditions: 
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud during the worship service and Fusion.


Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below represent necessary knowledge and skills.


Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree is required.  Training in educational methods is preferred.  Experience in team building and management of subordinates (i.e., volunteers) is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Knowledge of: Instruction and learning strategies; thorough understanding of Scripture, child development and effective communication techniques for a diverse community.



  • Skills in: Relationship building and ability to nurture and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally.  Strong skills in public speaking, and writing.  Creativity in developing new systems and procedures and fresh expressions of worship.



  • Ability to: Direct, train and manage volunteers; choose curriculum with specific understanding of Biblical themes; to communicate on social media platforms both from a marketing and a teaching standpoint; to be flexible, versatile, and tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, handle objects, keyboards, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently is required to stand and sit.  The employee is required to walk, stoop, kneel, talk, and hear.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
