Job Summary

Job Description

Gomer Congregational Church is seeking a full-time minister. The pastor shall have charge of the spiritual welfare of the church with the assistance of the Board of Deacons and Deaconesses. (S)he shall seek to enlist men and women as followers of Christ, preach the Gospel, administer the activities of the Church, have under his/her care all services of public worship, and administer the activitites of the church in cooperation with the various boards and committees. (S)he shall be ex-officio and advisory member of all boards, committees, and organizations.

The organization structure of a church is highly dependent on clergy leadership. We expect the pastor to be an effective speaker, planner, and leader of worship. We also expect the pastor to make pastoral calls on people in hospitals, nursing homes, and those confined to their homes. We would like our pastor to work regularly at bringing new members to the church and to encourage people to relate their faith to their daily lives. We need a pastor who works well with a team and can facilitate group problem solving. The pastor should also have a sense of direction of his/her ministry that will build a strong sense of fellowship with the people he/she works.

We would like our pastor to accept and appreciate our church history and musical traditions. We have a strong Welsh heritage which is deeply rooted in the music from our Welsh hymnals. We anticipate our pastor will embrace our beloved traditions while helping our church to grow and become better servants of God.

Our church recognizes the Bible as the sufficient rule of faith and practice, and holds that living in accordance with the teachings of Christ is the true test of fellowship. We believe in infant baptism and first communion taken at Confirmation. Each member shall have the undisturbed right to follow the Word of God according to the dictates of each individual's own conscience, under the enlightenment of The Holy Spirit. This is in accordance with the Belief of The Congregational Church.
