Family Ministries Director


First Presbyterian Church, Las Cruces, NM


Job Overview


Direct family ministries at First Presbyterian Church, with the mission of developing relationships with children and youth to foster Christian discipleship; and creating a cohesive, attractive, and fulfilling family ministry that leads to growth of our church.  The family ministries director helps strengthen and equip young families with the faith, skills, and commitment they require to raise their children in the way of Christ.  The director assists in providing pastoral care to children, youth, and their families. This is a full-time position.


Responsibilities



  • Create a cohesive, attractive, and fulfilling family ministry that leads to growth of our church

  • Provide resources to families that foster opportunities for Christian growth in families

  • Nurture Christian relationships with families and their children

  • Provide Christian counseling and pastoral care to children, youth, and their families

  • Teach God’s word to children and youth, including teaching at least one Sunday or mid-week lesson every week to either youth or young children

  • Communicate with and involve parents in all phases of child and youth ministry

  • Assist in the development of small group programs for family faith development

  • Work with a team to develop innovative ministries and programs to enhance partnerships between our church and schools, local charities, and businesses

  • Help other youth leaders with planning and promoting a yearly mission trip

  • Recruit volunteers through prayerful discernment. Encourage, train, and equip volunteers.

  • Assist in developing children and youth ministry budgets

  • Lead a team in the planning of one workshop a year to support child and youth ministry teams

  • Find innovative ways to encourage older adults in our congregation to mentor parents and to interact, teach, and play with children and bridge the generations


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree

  • Christian faith that is grounded in fundamentals of Reformed theology

  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in a related field

  • Ability to work with online technology and social media

  • Knowledgeable about current trends and resources in education and family ministry

  • Works well with others; has good interpersonal skills, tact, and communication skills

  • Relates well with children and youth

  • Energetic and outgoing with a passion for family ministry

  • Well-organized with ability to delegate tasks to others

  • Can learn and grow from constructive feedback

  • Demonstrate measurable growth of our church by the end of the second year of employment

  • Committed towards a long-term flourishing of our church

  • Manage a healthy work/life balance between duties at our church and personal or family commitments

  • Collaborate with other ministry teams

  • Meet monthly with youth and children’s ministry leaders to pray and to discuss upcoming events, challenges, solutions, and praises

  • Report directly to pastor and attend staff meetings

  • Report progress and concerns to the elders/session at their regular meetings as requested

  • Communicate regularly with our congregation regarding family ministry programs
