Exempt Position Description
Director of Children’s Ministry
Overview
The Director of Children’s Ministry must have a passion for the Christian formation of children and will have the responsibility for WCPC’s ministry to children ages birth-5th grade. The Director of Children’s Ministry is responsible for overseeing all of children’s ministry to ensure a welcoming and smoothly operating, safe, and effective program that nurtures, supports and equips children and their families to be life-long disciples who know, love, follow, and serve Jesus Christ. Children’s Ministries partners with parents in the faith formation and discipleship of their children.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for vibrant and dynamic ministries to children at WCPC by providing consistently excellent programming that children and parents will love and want to invite others into.
- Manage children’s Sunday School program(s) for 5th grade and below and other various midweek programs, activities and/or outreach events as appropriate
- Maintains a firm grasp of the culture, strategy, and membership of WCPC with the ability to align programming, leaders, and volunteers with its mission and vision
- Works collaboratively with Lead Pastor, the Pastor of Community and Connection and other Directors to ensure a cohesive approach to discipleship.
- Oversee curriculum selection and implementation for all Children’s Ministry programs
- Help to draw families into the church and to nurture families within the church through connection and relationships with children and parents
- Facilitate milestone classes, recognitions and celebrations (i.e. first Bible, first Communion, Baptism, etc)
- Encourage faith development at home by equipping parents with tools that help children to deepen their understanding of their faith
- Recruit, train, equip, support and encourage those who are volunteer teachers, leaders, and caregivers for Children’s Ministries
- Supervise the Children’s Ministry Coordinator and help to guide the planning and execution of other programs involving children at WCPC (e.g. MMO, MOPS, Special Events).
- Develop and manage the children’s ministry, childcare, and MMO budgets
- Partner with the WCPC Director of Preschool, creating synergy between the two ministries, supporting and encouraging one another and plan for potential overlaps as possible

- Knowledgeable in child development and spiritual formation with at least 2 years of experience in Children’s Ministry; 5 years is preferred
- Strong administrative, leadership and relational skills
- Experience in building, overseeing and developing both staff and volunteer ministry teams
- Strong Biblical knowledge and Bible-centered values
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a large, multifaceted church
- Strong communicator both written and oral
- Proficient in G-Suite, Microsoft Office Suite and other online tools
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; Master’s degree in Education or Seminary is desirable
Works with: Volunteers, church staff, Directors and Pastor(s), Parents and Children
Attends: Weekly Staff and Directors Meetings
Supervises: Children’s Ministries staff
Reports to: Lead Pastor
Hours: Full time (40+ hours per week)
Schedule: Sunday - Thursday
