What is KidZ at Heart?


KidZ at Heart International is a global Christian community that trains, partners with, and mobilizes networks of leaders to help children fall deeply in love with Jesus (Deuteronomy 6; Joel 1:3; Mark 10:13-16; Romans 12:1-2; 2 Timothy 2:2).


Purpose


The VP of People & Culture promotes the global Christian community of KidZ at Heart by working with new and continuing members of the global community to establish and maintain the proper functioning of community members within the parameters established as KidZ at Heart’s DNA.

Responsibilities



  1. Ongoing Christian spiritual formation (Romans 12:1-2):

    • Earnestly seek to fulfill the KidZ Leadership Community Covenant, including regularly engaging in spiritual disciplines, both privately and in community (Romans 12:1-2).

    • Ascribe to the KidZ at Heart statement of faith in both belief and practice as adopted and interpreted by the Board of Directors (Hebrews 13:17).

    • Abide by the KidZ at Heart Code of Conduct as outlined in KidZ at Heart’s Staff Handbook (Philippians 1:27).

    • Pray for the board, staff, and volunteers involved with KidZ at Heart (1 Timothy 2:1).

    • Actively engage in corporate spiritual discernment work with other KidZ at Heart leaders (Acts 21:10-14) in an ongoing effort to serve as a spiritual leadership community dedicated to understanding and pursuing God’s will in our lives and ministry (I Corinthians 2:6-16; 1 John 4:1).





  1. Personal support: Assemble and maintain a personal team of supporters who will pray for and financially support the VP of People & Culture and his/her ministry (Numbers 18:21-24; Luke 8:1-3; Matthew 10:7-11; Acts 18:1-5). 



  1. Standards and procedures: Staff member agrees to read, review as needed, and follow the policies and standards outlined in KidZ at Heart’s Staff Handbook and to follow processes and procedures defined by each department and stored for review on the intranet. 



  1. Onboarding of all staff and (key) volunteers, working closely with department Vice Presidents to ensure that the onboarding process equips new community members with the tools and knowledge needed to be successful and to feel that they belong in the KidZ community and understand our culture and values. 



  1. Onboarding of all training trip team leaders/members, working with the Development and Program Divisions to ensure training trip team members are properly welcomed, introduced to KidZ at Heart, invited to be a member of the “big picture” community, and passed successfully to the responsible mobilizer. 



  1. Reviewing/Vetting of all applications and background checks, including protecting KidZ at Heart from those who should not serve in any capacity and/or personally clarifying as needed when applicants show a difference in philosophy or style from the norm. 



  1. Encouraging community connections between staff and volunteers (and in coordination with the board), including coordinating of all affirmations, celebrations, condolences within the community and developing creative ways of connecting community. 



  1. Valuing staff and volunteers by random, purposeful, non-supervisory personal connections, e.g. calling staff members to inquire about their satisfaction and sense of connection in the community and communicating special needs and/or trends to CFO/COO and President. 



  1. Overseeing and coordinating headquarters office personnel, resources, workflow (including running interference and coordination between divisions for work to be conducted by headquarters). 



  1. Overseeing all staff/volunteer (including training trip teams) travel, approving of itineraries and costs and enforcing policies for reimbursement when appropriate. 



  1. Controlling of database as a tool, training new staff in how to use it and assisting other staff members in creating needed tools within it, overseeing maintenance and updates as necessary. 


Classification


The VP of People & Culture is a full-time position funded by 50% General Fund and 50% Faith-Based Support. This is a VP-level position considered to be a clergy/religious worker not subject to minimum wage and/or overtime regulations. 


Qualifications


The qualifications of the VP of People & Culture include:



  • Demonstrated ongoing personal spiritual growth and personal engagement in spiritual formation;

  • Exemplary people skills;

  • Ability to enforce policy while maintaining relationship;

  • Passion for the ministry of KidZ at Heart and helping kids fall deeply in love with Jesus;

  • Demonstrated critical thinking capability in developing solutions for HR-related issues that may arise as KidZ at Heart continues to grow as an organization. 


Meetings


In addition to the expectations outlined above, VP of People & Culture will need to attend the following meetings:



  • Monthly KidZ at Heart all-staff meetings;

  • Monthly Leadership meetings;

  • Monthly Faith-Based Staff Support Meetings

  • Weekly Meetings with CFO/COO;

  • Annual “fly-in” staff retreat (travel to be funded via staff member’s support fund).
