Overview

A smaller, multi-generational church in North Central Washington seeks a pastor who is committed to Bible teaching in the expository tradition and has a heart for helping people. He must be gifted in discipling and mentoring church leaders for ministry, knowledgeable in spiritual formation and small group development, and able to lead the congregation in reaching people for Christ and greater community impact. 

Pastor Profile

We desire a pastor who is a skilled Bible teacher, who is wise and discerning, and who cares for his people while providing appropriate leadership. He should relate to people with a servant’s heart, be experienced in equipping people for ministry and leadership, and be a good listener. In addition, the pastor should hold the vision of what the church wants to be before the congregation.

He must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, able to teach, self-controlled, not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money, and not fond of sordid gain. He must be one who manages his household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity, not accused of dissipation or rebellion. He must not be a new convert. He must have a good reputation with those outside the church. He must hold fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. Our Community

Okanogan Valley Alliance Church is located in the foothills of the Okanogan Highlands of North Central Washington, less than 3 miles from the city centers of Okanogan and Omak.

The population of Okanogan, Omak, and the surrounding area serviced by the two towns is approximately 16,000. The Okanogan Valley is largely supported by agriculture.

The area boasts a rural and quiet pace of life, with scenic hills and mountains lining the Valley, and an abundance of recreational opportunities in the surrounding state parks and national forests. In August, the annual Omak Stampede rodeo and Suicide Race draws visitors from across the country to enjoy the town’s western, pioneer, and American Indian history.

Many residents of the Okanogan Valley are unchurched, “spiritual-but-not-religious,” or a syncretization of Catholicism with American Indian Spiritualism. Poverty is high in the area, with a rate of over 21 percent for the county. A lack of employment opportunities causes many young adults to leave the Valley after finishing high school. The people of the Okanogan Valley need the hope of the Gospel and the knowledge of a Savior Who is redeeming the entire world—even small, rural communities.

Ministries

Worship Service
Our congregation meets at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings for singing, prayer, teaching, and fellowship. Our Music Team leads in the singing of both contemporary and traditional songs. Services generally run an average of an hour and forty-five minutes.

Adult Ministries
Elder Joe LaGrou leads a systematic, expositional Bible study Sunday mornings before the worship service. The men of the congregation and community are invited each fall to Men’s Retreat, a rustic weekend of Biblical teaching and fellowship. The women have a weekly Bible study and share in a year-long Secret Sisters exchange of prayer and encouragement. Other small group Bible studies occur at various times throughout the year.

Children and Youth Ministries
Our church offers weekly Sunday school for elementary-school-aged children. Children aged three to seven can participate in Children’s Church during the sermon. Our largest outreach ministry is Awana, reaching children in the community from age three through eighth grade.

Prayer Ministry
Our weekly worship service includes a prayer time. We also offer a weekly prayer meeting, an email prayer chain, and prayer calendar.

Missions
Our church hosts at least one Missions Conferences each year in which we invite a C&MA International Worker to spend the weekend teaching and sharing opportunities with us.

Church Socials
We hold monthly church socials to deepen our relationships and share food, art, culture, and a devotional. We also have a yearly church campout and picnic.

Our History

The Okanogan Valley Alliance Church began in 1996 as Central Valley Alliance Church, later changing the name to reflect the location and outreach of the church within the Okanogan Valley. The church met in rented facilities until the purchase of the current building in 2005.

Okanogan Valley Alliance Church has had three pastors in its lifetime. The Reverend Jonathan Langford served for two and a half years before the congregation had the privilege of sending him to the mission field in Mongolia. The Reverend Jim Moon also served for two and a half years, after which the Reverend Gary Logue served the church for 17 years, retiring in August of 2019. Under Pastor Gary’s leadership, the church purchased the current building, began an Awana program, and completed a building addition of three more classrooms and a handicapped bathroom.

Our Mission

Our mission reflects the Christian and Missionary Alliance’s desire to know Jesus Christ; exalt Him as Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King; and to complete His Great Commission.

In this new era for our church body, we desire to focus on engaging our community through outreach and evangelism, and to build ourselves a strong foundation in the truth of Scripture through Biblical teaching on Sunday mornings and through small group Bible studies.
