Job Description

Crosswalk Commons (CW) (https://www.crosswalkcommons.com/) is a Gospel-focused international living/learning community, welcoming students with all beliefs, created to bring residents of diverse cultures together in a vibrant, interactive community. To accomplish this, the Resident Life Manager (RLM) will be a person committed to Jesus Christ with a vision to manage the CW facility in a warm, hospitable manner. CW was established in 2011 on the Purdue University Campus in West Lafayette, IN, in conjunction with Kossuth Street Baptist Church (KSBC) and Salt and Light Christian Fellowship (SLCF), the campus ministry of KSBC.



The RLM will supervise student Resident Ambassadors (RAs) and Event Coordinators (ECs), and facilitate relationship and ministry opportunities for RAs, SLCF staff, and KSBC members, leading by example with his or her own ministry and relationships with CW residents. The RLM will report directly to a member of the CW Board of Directors.



This full-time paid position comes with the possibility of on-site housing. Crosswalk Commons is operated by a 501 (c)(3) organization overseen by a board of ministry-minded individuals with close connections to KSBC. To most effectively accomplish unity of mission, pursuit of membership

Qualifications


A strong candidate for the RLM position will have/demonstrate: 



  • Agreement with our statement of faith

  • Spiritual growth 

  • A heart for serving others

  • A desire to grow in cross-cultural competence

  • A track record of working well with a variety of people

  • A willingness to manage daily details of the facility

  • Clear communication skills

  • An action plan with examples to set and achieve goals

  • Experience in cross-cultural settings and/or building management (preferred)

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent (preferred) 




Duties include


Community Building – Approximately 50% of time 



  • Develop a positive rapport with residents 

  • Manage and implement RA/EC programs 

  • Mentor RAs in both the ministry and logistics side of their roles 

  • Directly and indirectly assist RAs in conflict-resolution and rules-enforcement, as necessary 

  • Overall responsibility for Crosswalk events 

  • Closely coordinate with SLCF staff to promote resident/staff interactions, and include residents in SLCF activities


Community Outreach - Approximately 25% of time 



  • Facilitate ministry partnerships with KSBC members 

  • Promote CW at relevant events on campus (housing fair, International Welcome Lunch) 

  • Develop relationships with university officials (department head offices, Dean of Students office, etc.) 

  • Connect with KSBC, University Religious Leaders (URL), other like-minded churches, etc. to promote and fulfill the vision of CW 


Administrative Responsibilities – Approximately 25% of time 



  • General office administration (QuickBooks experience preferred) 

  • Understand and promote the CW relationship with the apartment management company 

  • Maintain cleanliness in common areas of building (sweeping/vacuuming floors, cleaning restrooms) 

  • Facilitate mail and package delivery 

  • Work with RAs to ensure CW residents follow all safety and covenant-living rules and regulations 

  • Prepare reports (budget, leasing, facility, ministry, etc.) for the CW board as requested

  • Manage the use of common spaces at Crosswalk
