JOB DESCRIPTION
CHURCH ON THE ROCK - PASTOR
Qualifications Background, and Experience:
- Meet the Scriptural qualifications for Pastor as set forth in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and 5:17-20; Acts 20:28-31; Ephesians 4:11; 1 Peter 5:1-3; 1 Corinthians 9:6-14; Titus 1:5-9
- Prefer an undergraduate or higher degree from a Bible college or other institution.
- Desire a minimum of five years lead pastoral experience.
- Be in complete agreement with Church On The Rock doctrinal statement
- Know the Word and have Scriptural insight.
- Have an emphasis on expository preaching with a clear aim, continuity, and application.
- Love the Lord Jesus Christ, the flock, and the lost who do not know Christ.
- Recognize the need to be a growing Christian.
- Be able to feed and motivate the flock to recognize their spiritual gifts.
- Be above moral reproach.
- Be financially responsible; handling money wisely, being sensitive to the needs of the church.
- Be committed to the spiritual excellence of the church leaders, the church family, and oneself.
- Be able to prove himself faithful and able to guide others by managing his own household well; should have believing and obedient children.
- Have a deep, sincere desire to visit folks; both regular attendees and visitors.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Preach the Word in and out of season
- Administer the ordinances of the church, and perform the various duties
- incumbent upon his office.
- Be in daily prayer for Church On The Rock leaders and church family.
- Lead the church family in teaching and evangelization.
- Lead the church family in becoming active disciples of Jesus Christ, and use their spiritual gifts to further the church.
- Live a life that is above reproach, living what is preached, and leading by example.
- Be approachable and able to recognize the needs of others and act to meet those needs.
- Provide Biblical counseling and exhibit strong pastoral care qualities.
- Lead his family spiritually and morally, according to Scriptural principles.
- Oversee the church leadership to ensure that the flock is shepherded; be on guard for the flock.
- Be responsible for directing the activities of voluntary and paid church help.
- Recognize that he, the church Elder Board, and the church family are to be servants.
- Be accountable to Elder Board. Be part of the body of Elders, equal in participation.
- Be creative in his approach to ministry.
- Have a visitation ministry.
- Be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit as to the needs of the church family as he prepares to meet these other aspects of the position.
- Preach a minimum of 45 times per year. Any less than that will require Elder Board approval.
- Supervise and build up ministry staff as required to meet the needs of the church
- family, and according to their ability.
- Attempt to minister to the needs of the Elders.
- Always be aware of the attempts by Satan to deceive the church family, the ministry staff, the Elders, and other church leaders. Protect them by ‘rightly dividing the Word of Truth’.
- Use God’s Word to address and resolve conflicts and issues which occur.

1 The Word of God – The Holy Bible is the uniquely inspired Word of God, inerrant in its original manuscripts. It is profitable for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. 2 The Triune God
A The Lord our God is one Lord, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God is Spirit with attributes of freedom, infinity, transcendence, imminence, immutability, omniscience, omnipresence, omnipotence, love, holiness, and justice. Gen.1:26; Deut. 6:4; Ps.139:1-18;
Isa.6:3; Isa 43:10; Mt.28:19; Mark 12:29;

B God is sovereign and created the world out of nothing, including living things, each after its kind. He sustains and provides for His creation. Gen.1:1; Neh.9:6; Acts 17:24-27.
C Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit and was born of the Virgin Mary. In His incarnation, He united to His divine nature a true human nature, and so continues to be both God and Man, two distinct natures in one person, forever. He lived a sinless life, worked miracles, died a vicarious and atoning death, and rose bodily from the grave on the third day. He ascended to the right hand of the Father. He will return to judge the living and the dead, and bring a reign of righteousness and peace on the earth. Isa.11:1-11; 53:11; Amos

D The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He proceeds with
the Father and the Son, convicts of sin, indwells and assures the believer of sonship, and gives spiritual gifts for the building up of the Body of Christ. Jn.16:8;

3 The Doctrine of Man
Man was created by God in the image and likeness of God. Through willful disobedience, man has become alienated from God and unable to satisfy His righteous demands. Therefore, man is an enemy of God and in need of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation. Gen 1:26-31; 2:7; 3:1-7; 3:17; 5:1-3;
I Cor.11:7; Jn.3:3-8; Rom.5:12-21; 8:5-8; Ti.3:5-7; Jas.3:9.
4 The Doctrine of Salvation Luke 24:47; Romans 10:13-15; Titus 2:11; 3:5-7.
A Salvation consists in the forgiveness of sins, the imputation of therighteousness of Jesus Christ and the gift of eternal life. It is received only by repentance and faith in Jesus Christ on the basis of His atoning death and resurrection. Jn.3:16; Rom.6:23; Eph.2:8, 9; I Jn.5:11-13.
B The Scripture assures the believer of eternal security in Christ so thatnone need despair, but it also warns of the consequences of disobedience, and the uselessness of a faith that makes no difference in one’s life. Jn.10:28;
Eph.1:13; 4:30; Jude 24.
C The inward evidence to the believer of his/her salvation is the direct witness of the Spirit (Rom. 8:16). The outward evidence is a life of holiness (1 Thess. 4:7, II Tim.1:9).
5 Satan
Satan is the adversary of mankind, the deceiver and god of this present world. His powers of evil are vast but limited by the will of God Who overrules all his wicked devices for good. He was defeated and judged at the cross; therefore, his final doom is certain. Jn.12:31; Rom.8:28; II Cor.4:4; 12:7; Eph.2:2; Rev.12:9;
16:11.
6 The Church
A The Church is a living spiritual body of which Christ is the Head and of which all Elders and Church family are a part.
B The visible church is a local company of believers in Jesus Christ, who are baptized into His body and associated with Him for worship, service and fellowship. The Church observes two ordinances: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

C The task of the Church is to make disciples by proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ, teaching those who believe to observe all that the Lord has commanded.

D By the power of the Holy Spirit we strive to obey the command, “Be ye holy, for I am holy.” Sanctification is the will of God for all believers, and should be earnestly pursued by walking in obedience to God’s Word. I Thess. 5:23, 24;

I John 2:6).
7 The Last Things
A The Lord Jesus Christ will return bodily, visibly, and personally to gather living believers and resurrect deceased believers unto Himself. He will later establish His kingdom of peace and rule on the earth for 1000 years. After this He will judge all who have ever lived, assigning unbelievers to the lake of fire and rewarding believers according to their works. Mt.24:29, 30; Lk.21:25-28; Jn.14:3;

15:51, 52; I Th.4:13-18; Titus 2:13; Rev.5:9, 10.
B The devil and his angels, the beast and the false prophet, and whosoever is not found written in the Lamb’s Book of Life shall be consigned to everlasting punishment in the lake which burns fire and brimstone, which is the second death. Rev. 19:20; 20:10-15
C We, as promised in the Scriptures, look for a new heaven and a new earth wherein righteousness dwells. II Pet. 3:13; Rev. 21:l.
