Purpose: Oak Hills United Methodist Church is located in the Oak Hills community on the corner of Ebeneezer and Bridgetown Road. Our youth ministry currently consists of a Sunday morning Sunday School, but we desire to expand our youth ministry and its impact into the Oak Hills School District.
To do this our Youth Coordinator shall build, direct, and lead the Middle and High School youth group of the church and seek to reach out, foster, and build relationships with youth in the Oak Hills community.
General Expectations:
Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be a spiritual leader in the church.
Must model a life consistent with the character of the Christian walk in word and deed.
Must demonstrate in their practice of ministry and their personal life a commitment to the core values, mission, and vision of Oak Hills United Methodist Church.
Must demonstrate a sense of call, a passion and a love for Middle and High School youth.
Must be able to teach the Bible accurately and work well with volunteer ministry teams.
Must be part of the worshipping community of Oak Hills United Methodist Church.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide leadership for and function as the primary staff person relating to Middle and High School aged youth in the Oak Hills Community.
Work with the Senior Pastor and the Family Ministry Pastor to develop a vision and execute a strategy for the growth of the youth ministry of the church.
Plan and implement age appropriate activities for youth that promote Christian community and spiritual growth through fellowship, fun, and faith development. Such activities might include, though are not limited to, musicals, dramatic presentations, small group Bible studies, retreats, service projects, mission trips, and/or other fun outings and trips.
Organize, lead, coordinate, and recruit volunteers to assist with youth group/Sunday School.
Work with the Family Ministry Pastor to ensure proper training for all volunteer servants and to ensure adherence to the Safe Sanctuary policy of the church.
Coordinate fundraising activities that support youth activities, camps, or trips.
Promote Christian service through age appropriate service projects or mission trips.
Build and develop relationships with Middle and High School youth in the Oak Hills community.
Attend sporting events, concerts and other events to build relationships with Middle and High School aged youth.
Encourage youth to participate in all facets of church life.
Keep the congregation, the office, and the staff apprised of all youth related events.
All other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor.
Qualifications/Experience
At least a high school diploma, some college preferred.
Strong people and relational skills; able to relate to and build relationships with youth.
Able to work well with and take direction from others.
Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills.
Satisfactory completion of a background check and drug screening required.
